U15 AE SILVER STICK – CHATHAM REGIONAL CHAMPIONS
The U15 AE team
took home the coveted Silver Stick Green Banner this weekend by going
undefeated with a 4-0-1 record at the Chatham Regionals. This tournament featured a large number of
top teams within the province and the coaching staff couldn’t be more proud of
the players and their effort.
The Sabres started the tournament with a solid 3-1 win over Belle River. Later that evening, the Sabres were trailing Halton Hills only to rally late in the 3rd period and earn a 2-2 tie. The final round robin game was against Whitby and was a “win and you are in” game for both teams. The Sabres jumped out to a 4-0 lead eventually winning the game 5-2 to finish first in their division.
The semi-final game was against an undefeated St. Thomas team who had won their division by winning all 3 games and only allowing 2 goals in the process. The Sabres played an almost perfect game against one of the tournament’s top teams to earn a 2-0 shutout win.
In the finals, the Sabres faced one of the favourites in the tournament and defending Silver Stick champions in Orangeville. The final was worthy of a championship game and was a back and forth affair. During the final, the Sabres took 1-0 and 3-1 leads only to have Orangeville tie the game back up until the Sabres took the lead for good at 4-3 eventually winning the championship game 7-4.
Congratulations again to this group of players who worked hard and deserve this championship. Let’s show them what we can do in Pelham at the finals!
