The Sabres Atom Minor team had an incredible weekend of tournament hockey at the London Bandits Early Bird Tournament held at the Western Fair Grounds in London. The team beat Erindale 7-0, tied Kitchener 1-1 and beat the host London Bandits 2-0 in the preliminary round allowing for a bye to the finals.
In the finals, the Sabres played the host team London Bandits once again. It was a very similar hard fought back and forth battle between the two teams for the entire game. The Bandits tied the game with 7 seconds left in the game forcing overtime with a 1-1 score. The sudden death overtime format started with 4 on 4 for a minute, then 3 on 3 for a minute where no goals were scored. The third minute of overtime consisted of a 2 on 2 format and the Sabres took advantage by winning the faceoff at Centre ice and scoring the winner on the first rush, which caused a wild celebration for these young hockey players!!!
The coaching staff was extremely proud of the hard work, perseverance and determination of the boys on the weekend. It was an overall TEAM effort. All of the players have bought into protecting their own end first, which showed on the scorebord. The team only allowed two goals in four games.
The coaching staff is also proud of how the boys represented the Town of LaSalle with pride and responsibility on and off the ice. Congratulations boys on your first travel hockey Championship. You ALL deserved it.
