The Novice
AE Gold team came very close last month in the Guelph Powerplay tournament battling
extremely hard to qualify for the semi-finals. We came up short in a shootout, after
a 3 on 3 overtime period but the determination and grit of this team was definitely
there.
This past weekend,
the Novice AE Gold team entered into the Belleriver Randy Merten Dan Holland Memorial
Hockey Tournament with something to prove.
On Friday December 1st the team won 2 games straight against the Mooretown and Windsor squads. Saturday the team had a bit of a setback losing two straight. The first loss was to Chatham which was accompanied by a facility wide fire alarm and a partial evacuation during the first period. The second was another hard loss to the tournament hosts, Belleriver. The team played well enough throughout the tournament to qualify for the semifinal against Chatham who had beaten us 4 to 2 the day before.
In the semifinal our team dug deep and were determined to prove that the 4 to 2 previous loss to this team would not keep us down. The team played hard and were very impressive, posting a 1 to 0 victory vaulting us into the final against Belleriver. It was going to be a tough challenge, the hometown team in their own rink, in their own tournament and a loss to them the day before.
In the final, the Novice AE Gold were strong on the puck and on their opponent, battling for every inch of the ice. Forward lines, defensive lines and goaltending were all firing with determination. The final score board displayed: Lasalle Novice AE Gold 3 Belleriver Jr. Canadiens 1. The bench cleared in celebration as the LASALLE SABRES NOVICE AE GOLD were declared CHAMPIONS!
The Coaching Staff, parents, siblings and fans would like to congratulate all of the players of the Novice AE Gold team for a great show of perseverance and determination. Congratulations Novice AE Gold, you deserve it and we are so proud of you!
