Members,
As many of you are aware, an unfortunate incident occurred on Monday, January 20 in one of LMHA’s U21 Games. This communication has been formulated in order to attempt to contain rumours and help prevent further conjecture within our community.
The facts are as follows:
At the conclusion of the game, an on-ice altercation between opposing players occurred.
While the Referees were attempting to contain the situation, one of the Referees was physically engaged by 3 players.
As a result of this, the three players were issued Match Penalties for 11.5c Physical Harassment of Officials.
The three players have been suspended indefinitely pending final determination from OMHA and the LMHA Policy and Discipline Committee.
The investigation into the matter is ongoing. Thus far, LMHA and OMHA has concluded that the Referees both acted in accordance with all policies and procedures as it pertains to managing situations of this magnitude.
The LMHA and OMHA has a zero tolerance policy for abuse of game officials, whether verbal or physical.
LMHA takes the safety of our players, coaches, and officials seriously.
Due to the fact that this investigation is ongoing, the LMHA Board of Directors has no further comment at this time.
Thank you.
LMHA Board of Directors
