We are excited to share that the LaSalle Minor Hockey Association and Windsor Minor Hockey Association are reopening merger talks. Both associations feel strongly that the landscape of hockey is changing rapidly and that we have an excellent opportunity to create a new association that will be viable, competitive and financially sound now and for years to come.
We are committed to providing the best possible experience for all of our young athletes, coaches, volunteers and families. This commitment includes our renewed vigour to provide as much information regarding the potential merger as possible to our members.
Although our first attempt was not ultimately successful, many aspects of the merger were. We had a majority approval and we were close to seeing a two thirds majority in favour.
There have been significant changes since our first attempt in April, including the successful merger vote between Amherstburg Minor Hockey and Erie Northshore Minor Hockey as well as the recent announcement of a proposed merger between Riverside Minor Hockey and Tecumseh Minor Hockey.
The boards from both LMHA and WMHA have voted unanimously in favour of reopening merger discussions and we will be providing information articles and open information meetings throughout the summer and into the start of the season.
We wish all of our members a safe and fun summer.
Yours in hockey,
Don Durham
LMHA President
