These players continued to surprise us in more ways than one. Fresh off their 3rd place finish in the Hometown Heroes Tournament they resolved that they wanted to win this one and would not settle for anything less.
First, they didn't forget this tournament was about more than hockey and raised a staggering $3700.
They then went straight to hockey business and stormed out to a 9-1 victory in game 1, followed by a 15-2 victory in game 2 and a 7-3 victory in game 3 to solidify 1st place overall.
Through the round robin play, one player stuck out for exemplary leadership, teaching abilities to the younger players, calmness and clutch performances and thus our captain was born, #19 Deklin M.
With our newly appointed captain leading the team we went to the semis against a tough ENS Gold team who jumped out 2-0 right away. When we thought oh boy, this is a tall mountain to climb, our goalie made some TSN highlight reel saves and our forwards found their game to secure our spot in the finals with an 11-3 win.
Brimming with confidence, The Hawks went into the finals knowing it was their time. Sure enough, it was, as they secured the championship with a perfect record and a 7-4 victory!
We (the coaches) want to thank all the centers, the players, the siblings and most importantly the parents for giving up a portion of their holidays to make this event a success. We (the coaches) are extremely excited and can't wait for future tournaments!
