Peewee AE Advances to the OMHA Semi-finals
This past weekend was an unbelievable weekend of hockey for our team. I am extremely proud of the kids, they played exceptional hockey and were so determined to win this series. We went in to the series as underdogs, Belle River had only lost 3 games all season and finished first in the round robin. I always believed that we could pull off the win, and the kids proved that they believed it too.
Our series started Friday night in Belle River, we knew we had to out work them and stay out of the box to have a shot at winning. The kids came to play and every player contributed, the team stayed disciplined and kept the penalty minutes low. I would say this was our best game of the year, the final score was 5-0.
Saturday we were back at the Vollmer for a hard fought, back and forth battle. We were up 4-3 with just over a minute to go. Belle River pulled their goalie and managed to tie the score at 4. Off to over time we went. Over time didn't last long when we found the back of the net 2 minutes in.
Sunday we were back in Belle River for a do or die game for them. They had obviously come to play, the game was very intense. They opened up the scoring on a power play 3 minutes in to the game. Belle River scored again a minute in to the second period, making the score 2-0. Our players never gave up and battled back to tie it up 2-2, sending us again in to over time. 5 minutes in to the overtime we found the back of the net to sweep the series.
Belle River was a tough opponent and battled hard, we wish them the best of luck in the playoffs.
